'Victory' is about cricket and not just that it is also a film about the cascading dreams of a wannabe who should have learnt to run before deciding to fly. Debutant director Ajitpal Mangat's rugged but emotional film apart is the discernible love that it exudes for the sentiments of the masses.
Story:
Victory is the story Vijay Shekhawat (Harman Baweja) who hails from a small town of Jaisalmer and becomes India's latest world-class batting sensation. But it is the glamour and the glitter of this very demi-god status that makes the young, vulnerable small-town boy Vijay stray from his true vocation of cricket. Unfortunately this leads to a loss of focus and to a miserable drop in his performance. But by the time Vijay realizes the error of his ways, it is too late and he finds himself thrown out of the Indian cricket team. His father's dreams are shattered and he suffers a paralytic stroke. This tragedy awakens Vijay's conscience and sense of honor. He wants to redeem himself in the eyes of his father and every Indian. How he does it forms the rest of the story.
Performance:
Hurman Baweja performs well throughout and fits perfectly to the character. Amrita Rao was apt as Vijay's love interest. Gulshan Grover in a negative role was efficient. Anupam Kher did justice to his character as Vijay's father. Indian Cricket stars Harbhajan Singh and Brett Lee make most impact among the other cricket stars who gave special appearances. Navjot Singh Sidhu was funny as commentator.
Music:
Music by Anu Malik is average. Songs 'Balla Utha Chhakka Laga' and 'Money Money Money' are the pick of the lot.
Verdict:
'Victory' cannot be called as a complete sports film, it has it's share of loop holes. Debutant director Ajitpal's Screenplay should have been a bit more crisper. 'Victory' does not bring out the actual zeal and passion of Cricket which is the biggest weakness of India. 'Victory' can be rated as an average movie. |  |
